Guido Fawked – Moron Ratings Howler

[Update at end of post]

The continuing – and thus far vain – attempts by the assembled rabble at the Guido Fawkes blog to deal an even glancing blow to the appalling Piers “Morgan” Moron have continued today with a supposedly authoritative swipe at Moron on the question of his ratings. The Fawkes folks have noticed that the all-new Percy Moron Show topped CNN’s ratings with a substitute host one day.

Would you rather not watch him ...

Now, going briefly into Jon Stewart mode, two things here. One, the idea that Moron is regularly beaten in the ratings by all his colleagues is total crap. The assertion by The Great Guido that Erin Burnett gets better numbers is laughable: in July, Moron was number 20 in the cable news pops (and top rating CNN host), with Erin Burnett Outfront coming in at 29.

... or not watch him either?

Last month, Moron rated second in the CNN chart, with Ms Burnett not even in the top thirty. Moron and Anderson Cooper are invariably the top two rated hosts at CNN. And the second thing that the Fawkes blog is not telling its readers is that, last month, MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell regularly got in among the pack of hosts at Fox News Channel (fair and balanced my arse).

Yes, the rotten lefties are encroaching on those top slots. And, while CNN is doing badly in the ratings, that applies to the whole of its line-up, not just Moron. Oh, and  that Moron has to take time off from his CNN show to work for ITV is a show of strength, not weakess – it means he’s in demand. That would be as in “more in demand than the rabble at the Fawkes blog”.

Toppling Moron from his perch? The Fawkes popgun isn’t even registering on the scale of mildest discomfort. Another fine mess, once again.

[UPDATE 20 September 1805 hours: just to show that the Fawkes blog's interest in Stateside cable news ratings is selective and merely transitory, there is no mention there today of the latest story on the competition between the cable channels.

Partly this is because it does not concern the appalling Moron, but also has to do with bad news for their pals at Fox News Channel (fair and balanced my arse). Rival network MSNBC, whose evening hosts are liberal leaning, has beaten Fox in the coveted 25-54 age demographic two nights running. Last Tuesday, 10pm ET host Lawrence O'Donnell got better numbers "in the demo" than Greta van Susteren on Fox, and 9pm ET host Rachel Maddow got better numbers in the demo than both Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly.

Of course, Fox's overall viewer numbers are far higher, but advertisers base their rates on how many viewers in the 25-54 age range are watching. That means the Fox audience has many older viewers, which Mitt Romney, their preferred Presidential candidate, has just teed off with his latest gaffe.

None of this gets reported by The Great Guido. Not that it's anything to do with right-wing bias, you understand. Another fine mess]
